Weston Turville Reservoir.......

It is not lost on me how lucky I am to be able to live within this landscape. You can often forget how close you are to London. And of course it is beautiful at all times of the year. This is late summer and I am already anticipating the Chiltern ridge turning an autumnal gold before the onset of winter and the return of the bitterns.

Wood mouse........

This year has been a good one for small mammals....bank voles and harvest mice have been observed in the garden but wood mice in particular have been especially abundant. It is perhaps no coincidence that the tawny owl population has also been much in evidence this autumn with at least two birds hunting the area most evenings.

Autumn flowers and caterpillars..........

The soft autumnal sun over the last week or so has stimulated a last flush of summer flowers and they looked particularly beautiful this weekend on a trip to the Chiltern Open Air Museum. The caterpillar is that of a grey dagger moth and was eating an alder leaf in my front garden.

Young Timor zebra finches take a bath.......

The young Timors are now starting to moult into adult plumage and are keen to bathe at every opportunity, especially during the recent spell of warm weather. Again, their small size is apparent compared to the young parson finch that associates with them. They are very inquisitive and one can be seen checking out the camera.......
