Beautiful calm evening at Wilstone and after a scan through the rapidly-expanding gull roost found a single redhead smew diving with pochard in the north west corner. A momentary glimmer of light on a dark day when Gary Speed took his own life. Sad Sad Sad.

Today really felt Autumnal and, it has to be said, entirely appropriate for November. Kew was  wonderfully misty and damp and full of fungi and, appropriately, exotic aliens...ring-necked parakeets everywhere and free-flying Egyptian and Bar-headed geese also present....

watched two ravens come in to the roost at Green Park...just the most amazing trilling, kronking calls and huge size...amazing that they are so close to home....
