Winter Alive / Живая Зима

This is absolutely stunning. I could just sit and watch this. The clarity of the colours and the sounds of the birds....it is almost as if you are there. Great work by Dmitry Yakubovich

Mudchute, Monk Parakeets and the Secrets of the Canning Town Fly-over......

Classic urban birding, exploring the hidden habitats amongst the redevelopment of London's East End. Aside from occasional strong whiffs of cannabis, the biggest surprise was finding a singing cetti's warbler and a migratory whitethroat in the shadow of the Canning Town fly-over. The monk parakeet nests in the London plane trees lining the streets adjacent to Mudchute park were awesome feats of engineering. A great day in the company of Hawkeye.

Feeder frenzy.......

I have to say I could sit and watch this feeder in the valley of the River Glaven, North Norfolk, situated outside the window of a wildlife reserve tea shop, for hours. The activity around it was relentless, with a number of species feeding below it too. Late winter is a crucial time for birds, when natural supplies have diminished. The temptation is to stop feeding as the weather improves but this is a time when birds still have to deal with cold nights and the drain on their fat reserves they represent as well as starting to nest-build and invest in egg production. the species in this video are blue tit, great tit, coal tit (with the white stripe on the back of the head) and long-tailed tit.

Favourite photographs of 2015.......

I do not claim to take amazing photographs and I use a relatively modest 'Bridge' camera, but I do enjoy recording the world around me as I see it. There is beauty in every view and sometimes we are lucky enough to find it. These are my favourite shots from the last year.....
